I love my homemade granola. Like, LOVE love it. But sometimes I run out and then I’m a very, very sad girl. Last month, right when I had run out of my homemade stuff, the friendly folks at Udi’s contacted me asking if I wouldn’t mind reviewing their gluten-free granola. The timing was perfect.
The package they sent contained four different flavors: Vanilla, Cranberry, Original, and Au Naturel. I immediately opened the Original flavor and tasted it plain. Not quite as good as the homemade stuff, but a decent substitute. I mixed it in with some yogurt and strawberry jam, and it went from being just okay, to super delicious. The original flavor has banana chips, walnuts, cashews, almonds, and pistachios, which completely rounded out a blah yogurt into a WOW yogurt. In fact, I talked to my husband later that day and told him how much I liked it and he said, “Make sure you save me some!” Um…I didn’t. Oops!
But I did save him the other flavors and he’s been enjoying it with some milk as a before-bed snack. I liked the Cranberry flavor but I found the cranberries to be a little hard and difficult to chew. Vanilla was yummy, and Au Naturel was perfect in a yogurt parfait (layer yogurt, berries, and granola). But my heart lies with the Original flavor.
In all, the Udi’s granola was a decent substitute for homemade, but I’ll always prefer my version. In a pinch, it’s great though. And if you’re gluten-free, it’s nice to know you have options out there.
